A HAPPY PARTY
A HAPPY PARTY
Of Young Men Left Today for Western Canada. This evening's Canadian Pacific train from here will have a company of active young men who are taking leave of their native heath today to try their fortunes in the West. They have come from points between here and Chatham and have accepted invitations to improve their chances from the managment of the Toronto division of the C. P. R. The jolly party includes Messrs. Chessman and Ross (Joe) of Chatham and Harris of Blackville, who will undergo examination as telegraph operators. The others are Mr. George Roy Robinsons, the popular assistant station agent at Gibson, son of A. G. Robinson, Esq., of Marysville; the Messrs. Hoyt of the Canada Eastern; Mr. James Ross of Chatham and Mr. James Cameron of Gibson. Great interest centres in the prosperity of this party who have all hosts of friends, and who will no doubt be heard from vavorably at no distant day.

By June 1931 Emma had remarried and was raising a large blended family in Chatham, New Brunswick. She and her second husband, George Roy Robinson, owned an eight-room wooden house on Loban Avenue, worth $1,200, and they had a radio. George was forty-four and worked as an engineer for the C.N.R., earning $2,500 a year. Emma, thirty-one, kept the home.
Emma’s three children from her first marriage to Oscar Anderson lived with them: Hilda, sixteen, Pearl, eleven, and Oscar, ten, all in school. The census taker wrote them under their stepfather’s name. George and Emma’s own children were Ronald, eight, Grace, six, Marjorie, five, John, three, who was known as Jack, and Florence, one.
The household also took in a lodger, Gustave Smith, a thirty one year old farm labourer who had been out of work for twenty four weeks of the past year. The census taker spelled the family’s surname “Robertson” throughout.
